Wir laden ein zur Eröffnung von „Eckersberg – Faszination Wirklichkeit“, am 11. Februar von 19 bis 22 Uhr. Der Eintritt ist frei. Die Ausstellung findet ihr in unserem Hubertus-Wald-Forum, die Eröffnung findet im Lichthof der Galerie der Gegenwart statt. Wir freuen uns auf Euch.

Mit einer großen, erstmals außerhalb Dänemarks in Europa stattfindenden Retrospektive zu Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783–1853) würdigt die Hamburger Kunsthalle den bedeutendsten dänischen Maler der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Im Mai 1814 kaufte sich Eckersberg einen tragbaren Malkasten und einen Klappstuhl, um in der Ewigen Stadt und der römischen Campagna zu malen. Er begründete damit in Rom die dänische Tradition der Freilichtmalerei. Innovationen im direkten Naturstudium bildeten neben der Geometrie und Perspektive die wichtigsten Bestandteile seiner Lehre an der Kopenhagener Akademie, wo er annähernd 40 Jahre lang als Professor wirkte. Durch seine progressive Verknüpfung von Tradition und Innovation, sowie von Klassizität und Wirklichkeitsnähe wurde Eckersberg nicht nur der bedeutendste dänische Maler in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts, sondern zugleich eine prägende Figur in der europäischen Kunstentwicklung jener Zeit.

Die Ausstellung Eckersberg – Faszination Wirklichkeit umfasst mit rund 90 Gemälden sowie ca. 40 Zeichnungen und Druckgraphiken aus allen Schaffensphasen zugleich sämtliche Hauptwerke des Künstlers.

With an encompassing retrospective on Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783–1853), presented for the first time outside of Denmark in Europe, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is paying tribute to the most prominent Danish painter of the first half of the 19th century. On 9 May 1814 Eckersberg had bought a portable paintbox and a folding chair in order to paint in the Eternal City and in the Roman Campagna. He thus established the Danish tradition of outdoor painting in Rome. Innovations regarding the direct study of nature alongside geometry and perspective made up the principal components of his teachings at the Copenhagen Academy, where he was engaged as a professor for almost 40 years. Through his progressive approach of combining tradition with innovation, and classism with realism, Eckersberg not only became the most distinguished Danish painter of the first half of the 19th century, but also one of the defining figures for the European development of art during this period.

The exhibition Eckersberg – Fascination with Reality comprises around 90 paintings and about 40 drawings and prints from all creative periods, including all of the artist’s major works. Awaiting the visitor are highlights of art history, such as the group painting of The Nathanson Family or A View through Three Arches of the Third Storey of the Colosseum in Rome.
